Growing up as an Australian kid in the 2000’s meant that the major form of home entertainment came from free-to-air television (and maybe Foxtel or some other cable networks for paying users).
High-speed internet was still uncommon among the populace; media platforms designed to stream video, such as YouTube (created in 2005) and Netflix (started streaming in 2007) were still in their infancy, and the iPhone was not released until 2007, so that left the majority of the decade for free-to-air television to make its impact on youngsters.
And what an incredible time it was.
I was born on the border between the Millennial and Gen Z generations, so the impression of TV shows aired in Australia is incredibly vibrant and distinctive.
(Other disc-based media such as DVDs and computer games were quite influential too, but I’ll include those in another page or something)
