I think the features and topics of this page would fall under various schedules in the 020s DDC area, probably 022 (Buildings and Grounds) or 027 (General Libraries and Archives).
“Aghhh why do I have to google search for each library and then navigate to their event pages just to find out if something fun and free is going on next weekend 📅? And what about if I want to know if there are links between a library’s socioeconomics and its services? What a pain 😩 I wish there was a more convenient way...“
Trove (go try it out!) exists as a search aggregate the catalogue entries (books and resources) of libraries throughout Australia, but so far I haven’t seen anything that can aggregate and compare library events and programs or OPACs across different councils/local government areas. This is my attempt to create a comparison platforms of the Libraries in Sydney, organised by council, in order to make reviewing them more convenient.
At the very least, this repository is a simple technology that spares someone from the hassle of repetitive google searching.
The two headings below provide some instruction using this council comparison databases, and can be expanded by clicking the small triangles on the left.
Oh, and Wikipedia is a treasure 👑 - all of these councils and more throughout NSW are listed on the Wikipedia page for Libraries in New South Wales. It doesn’t list the branches belonging to each of the councils, and incorrectly lists Blacktown and Hawkesbury as Regional NSW libraries rather than being in Greater Sydney, but that page was nevertheless useful enough for me to list each of the councils in Sydney here.
As for the locations of TAFE Libraries throughout NSW (not just Sydney), they are listed in a directory accessible on https://tafensw.libguides.com/az/contacts.
For helpful insights on how the architecture and facilities of these libraries have been designed, check out the Buildings and Spaces page of the NSW State Library’s website (and its PDF publication ‘People Places - A guide for planning public library buildings’), or the Public Library Services page for broader info on how NSW’s public libraries are administered.
